Physical Description:
Akiva is a small girl, in both height and frame. She has long red tresses that reach to her lower back, though she often braids her hair into a crown of red, so that it is not a hindrance to her. She carries a small pistol on her hip at all times, as well as various jars and herbs in pockets on a specially made utility belt. Akiva wears more pants and loose shirts than dresses and gowns, though she can be persuaded by special occasions. She has a penchant for hats, and masquerading as a man on the streets of Khandor, as well.
Personality Description:
Akiva is a sarcastic girl who wants equality for everyone, magic or not, though she keeps this opinion to herself. Everything with the magic community happened before she existed, and she has only known what the current situation is. The kidnapping of someone, who for all accounts and purposes, was an idol to her... does not bode well. She resents the people who took Eloise, but tries not to let that affect her view of all magic people, or even everyone involved in the Left Hand. Akiva hates when people try to tell her what to do, how to do it, and when. She enjoys her life independent as possible from the family she grew up with; and that means she holds no resentment that she has not got a royal title; that title would only weigh down her dreams, she is very certain of that. She dreams of a time where everyone is in harmony, and not one group of people is too impoverished or scared to receive proper medical care. Though, Akiva also dreams of forwarding medicine and technology. She is ambitious, and she knows what she wants. She's a workaholic, too pressed to serve to really leave work be.
History
When Akiva was born, she was born to a prostitute upon the street. The woman had been beaten bloody, sent into an early labor, and found by a royal healer. The woman, Keya, ordered guards to help her get the woman to her home, which was nearby. Keya delivered the baby via c-section, however the mother did not survive, and the next day when the healer went to work she had the little red-haired infant with her. By the time Akiva was two, Keya had been permanently moved into the palace as her residential home, to keep an eye on the royal family, as a trusted healer.
Akiva never knew about her birth mother, she always only knew Keya, and she only ever knew that palace as her home. Keya and Akiva lived on the edge of the palace-grounds, and Akiva often played with the king's children, as well as the children of guards and loyal servants. When she was seven, tragedy struck. Her mother had left an apprentice healer in charge, to go tend to the wounded in another part of the city after an explosion caused by magic. However, Keya never returned.
King William St. Germaine and his wife, Vera, took the little girl into their family as their ward; raising her alongside their children, as they felt like it was their responsibility since her mother took such good care of their family. They should return the favor, the best they could. She grew up loved, and she grew up curious. Her curiosities were endorsed, the royal healer after Keya was to take her under his wing, teach her about everything he knew.
By the time she was twelve, she had taught herself more than even her tutor could teach her. Sneaking off into the La Damme Forest when nobody would miss her, running through the streets to help those who need it--she was a very active person when it came to helping others. Often she'd sneak potions and tonics from her teacher, and sneak in the midst of the night to wander the slums and help those who could use whatever tonic she had managed to steal that night. She didn't care if they were magic, marked, or not. She just cared about helping.
When she was sixteen, her teacher retired, and she was deemed worthy enough of the position. Of course, she had the previous healer's notebooks, sketchbooks, and inventories to work with. She was extremely adept with the knowledge she had, and was not afraid to admit when she needed to research for a cure. When she first met Elijah Mozinak , she had been intrigued, only eighteen and her adopted parents had arranged a marriage to ensure that she would live in comfort.
However, just after her nineteenth birthday, Eloise St. Germaine was kidnapped, and she was tasked with trying to combat the illness that Queen Vera had gained. She failed, and to this day, blames herself for her lack of knowledge--despite multiple healers of reputable status telling her that there was nothing she could have done; nothing any of them could have done.
