[Family and close friends only. Eloise St. Germaine ] King William was a busy man. He had an entire kingdom to run after all. But there were somethings that he'd never miss, no matter how busy he was. Like walking his daughter to bed on the eve of her birthday. He spent the evening with all of his children this way. His guards hanging back at a polite distance. Though the man was so used to them he hardly noticed they were there. It was in these quiet moments he would talk with his children. About their dreams, aspirations, what they wanted for breakfast in the morning. Really anything. It was in these times he allowed the title of king to drop and he simply became their father. He had precious few moments with his children, especially as they grew older and had their own things to keep them busy. It was these precious moments he cherished and looked forward to. Tonight was no exception. He walked slowly, ever one to make these moment drag out. Milking it for as long as he could before he had to return to his duties. Hands clasped behind his back he smiled. "How have things been?" He asked. Eloise was also a busy woman. The heir to the throne her days were filled with lessons and other things. He felt he had only really seen her in passing for the past month. Catching her at dinner, when they were both able to attend. For him dinner as important family time, but it was a hard thing to pull off when surprises cropped up. Tonight he was not to be disturbed. His guards had strict orders to stop anyone that tried. Though no one ever tried any more. At first, when Eloise was very young, people had attempted to forestall his evening with his daughter. They learned very quickly, and very harshly that this was unacceptable. By the third year no one bothered him anymore unless the world itself was ending. Which it hadn't so he had been left in peace to enjoy his time with each child on their birthday's eve. People became used to working around the schedule. What was seven early evenings out of the year anyways? (On cannot forget his wife's birthday and their anniversary). A formula to a happy king and healthy servants. Of course he had other times that he spent with his family. He was with them as much as he could be. Though those times he was available to be pulled away. As begrudgingly as one can be, though he never showed it. He also found he hated explaining to his daughters why daddy had to leave in the middle of their tea party. Tonight. Only family and emergencies could interrupt his family time. 459 words

Eloise always looked forward to the time she got to spend with her father, even though his attention was naturally lopsided to favoring her anyways. She was to take his place someday after all, he needed to teach her what he knew about ruling a people. Still, lessons of politics and governance were never quite the same as personal time. When he was teaching her, he was the stern, surly king. When it was personal time, such as now, he was the loving, doting father he hoped to be. So the time was cherished not just by the king, but by his children as well. She was still dressed as she had been for the day, choosing a bright, fashion-forward statement as she had been flitting about the palace all day to see to the preparations for her party. The matching fascinator she had worn was long since removed though, her hair in ringlets down her back instead – after a while hair pins got rather uncomfortable after all. Eloise walked with her hands clasped in front of her, and smiled up at her father as he spoke. “Well. Busy. Mush as one could expect I suppose.” She said with a grin. “What about you? My duties are hardly taxing compared to your own.” She was the crowned princess, yes, but she still had very little real responsibility when it came right down to it.

He smiled down at her. Offering a warm chuckle at her words. "Perhaps not. Though the problem of a child, though insignificant compared to the problems of an adult, are no less valid or overwhelming." Not that she was a child. But he was certainly far, far older and she was his baby. "If you ever need anything, or find things are hard. Tell me. I always have time for you." The great king would reach out and seek to wrap his arm around his daughter's shoulders, pulling her close in a quick affectionate hug as he kissed her atop the head. "Now, no more talk about work. We get enough of that, tonight is for more pleasant things." He chuckled. He'd leave his arm there as they walked. He was quiet for a moment. Savoring the pleasant moment. His baby girl was growing up so fast. She had grown. One moment he was holding a screaming newborn in his arms, the next he had an arm around her as they walked together. As two adults. "You've grown into a intelligent, beautiful woman, Eloise." He said, his voice low. "I am so very proud of you. I keep thinking I cannot possibly love you more, or grow to be more proud. But every day, even as a tiny babe, you proved me wrong." [ Eloise St. Germaine ] 223 words

Eloise looked up at him with a grin. He was always very good about making her problems not seem so insignificant. The worst he ever got was a very stern question about whether a specific issue would prove problematic in the long run - like who ended up playing with the stuffed bunny longer. It was uncanny really, how easily he was able to discern the importance of a topic to a child's mind. Of course, she was a woman now, so his understanding was less surprising because the issues she dealt with were more adult in nature. Nontheless she appreciated the understanding.
Her head tilted to rest on his shoulder momentarily when he pulled her in for a side hug. "It means a lot to hear it." She said with a smile. "You've given me big shoes to fill." He had done so much during his reign, the thought of taking his place was daunting to say the least. But Eloise worked and studied diligently, so that when she did finally take his place, she would be more than ready and he could be confident he was leaving the kingdom in capable hands. She grinned up at him as he continued to compliment her. "If I did not know better I would think you were trying to inflate my ego, father." She said with a light laugh.

"Big shoes?" He looked down at his shoes as if noticing their size for the first time. He pondered this for a moment. "They say the older you get the smaller you become. I'm sure they'll shrink in no time." He teased. He had done much in his time as king. But he was certain she would do far more than himself as queen. She was a diligent student and a brilliantly sharp woman. He had no doubt that she would leave her old man in the dust. She could easily come out from behind, and dwarf his shadow. "If it does grow, be sure to cover it up with an even bigger hat." He said. Still in a teasing mood. It wasn't often that he could be light hearted. Most of the time he was a stern, stoic individual. He had to be. But tonight he was not the ruler of all of Khandor. Tonight he was William, father of Eloise. It was a role he was far more proud of. He had accomplished far more amazing feats as a father, than a king. At least in his own mind. His children were his greatest accomplishments, his greatest treasures. It was all for them. Every decision was made for the betterment of the kingdom, and their lives. "So tell me." He said. "What do you have planned for your birthday? Your mother said you've been quite busy masterminding it all." It was good practice in overseeing others and so he hadn't intervened. But he was curious what was going on. He hadn't had time to learn, other than the date and time. As well as what to wear. He was curious what festivities were planned. He knew he had his own surprises to throw in and had trusted his wife to handle those details as he handle the kingdom. [ Eloise St. Germaine] 310 Words

Eloise grinned and laughed a little as her father insisted his shoes would shrink and she only need a larger hat should her head grow. “I am certain the milliner would be quite pleased to charge me extra if he need use extra materials to cover my ballooning head.” She said jokingly. Though frankly, any excuse to get a new fascinator or hat was good enough for her to do so, they were by far her favorite accessory. “Oh, certainly you can guess, knowing mother has her hands involved in this.” She said with a laugh and a slight roll of her bright blue eyes. “We are throwing a rather lavish party, and I do believe mother has invited every eligible bachelor in the entirety of Khandor to attend as my personal guest as she so inscribed on those invitations.” Eloise was by no means old but she was at an age where her mother was beginning to worry and fuss about her lack of a husband – or at least a serious suitor. Eloise was simply much too busy with her studies and other princess-ly duties to worry about finding herself a suitable beau. It just wasn’t on her radar. “So I believe I will spend the evening with Vetty attached to my hip to scare them all away so I might enjoy myself.” She said. Yvette was quite feisty after all and if any could keep some overly eager fellows at bay it would be her. William St. Germaine
