Vanity That Deceives

Seated at the table, her posture was slumped. Elbow on the table in a way her master would’ve smacked her on the back of the head for, she rested her cheek against her fist, scowling down at her plate. None of the food on it had made it past her rosy lips. Instead, her fork prodded at the skin of her potatoes and the cooked yolk of her eggs, clearly uninterested. While she was a rather skinny girl, Lucretia knew better than to skip out on food when it was offered, as well as not to play with it. And yet, she could not help it that morning.
Her morning had gone extremely poorly, and she was quite certain that everyone in the Left Hand present in their headquarters had heard the the blonde be scolded and screeched at by her master. She barely even wanted to show her face that morning in the base after what had occurred, but she was not one to shy away from awkward situations. Lucretia was quite certain it would’ve been more shameful to not attend breakfast that morning than to, and so she sat.
People passed in and out of the common eating area, consuming their meals and leaving their places. Not one spoke to Lucretia, and she didn’t bother with small talk. Instead, she remained stationary, sitting and staring at her plate of food.
After nearly an hour and a half, Lucretia could not convince herself to eat the food. Pushing her plate away, she was about to rise to her feet and go and find something to busy herself with when she spotted her: HIs Herz, the one replacing her. Now that it had been confirmed, Lucretia felt a fresh wave of distain for the woman. No, not distain. It was not strong enough of a word.
The blonde hated the crowned princess.
Scowling, the woman remained in her seat so her standing would not be mistaken for some sign of respect towards the approaching woman. When she arrived, she bowed her head and spat on the table. The apprentice was known for letting her emotions, especially the negative ones, get the better of her, but this was a step up from her usual actions.
“Your Highness,” she said, scowling at the woman. She knew all about her plans to push her out of her master’s life, rid her entirely of the warmth and protection he had provided. To think, not only could one woman prompt an entire rebellion to become ablaze, but one woman could ruin an entire life.
And she was.
“I hope nothing disturbed your slumber,” she spat, certain that Eloise had heard the actions of the man they shared- Not for long. “That would be the absolute last thing I would want, you know. Something to be difficult for you?” Shoving her plate to the side, Lucretia stepped up and over the bench seat to be standing upright, the soles of her boots on the floor. "Let's hope your breakfast isn't too challenging either."
